Dodge Dakota Convertible, just because they can!
Pictured here is a 1989 Dodge Dakota Convertible. Yes, it is a convertible pickup truck, which may sound a little weird......and you are right! Honestly I'm not sure where Chrysler got the idea to put this into production for 3 years (87-89), but it's obscurity is what makes it unique! This was the first convertible truck sold to the US since the Ford Model A trucks of the 1930s! This is a pretty good example of how a cars obscurity can make it a collectible. Only about 3000 of these trucks were made, and there are much less that are still in existance today.
There was another odd truck made by dodge in the late 1980s, it's called the Rampage(pictured above). Like the Dakota Convertible, it was also only around for 3 years (82-84). However it remains overshadowed by the king of the Coupe Utilities, the Chevy El Camino and very few people even knew it existed. 2 obscure trucks that remain hidden from the world of collectible cars today.
I'm here
Hello. My name is Johnathon Berkman(not berkan like my profile says). And this is a blog about cars, but unlike the other countless blogs Ive tried to make on Tumblr and Blogspot, I plan to make this one decently interesting and easy for you automotive amateurs. This won't be a blog where I will find a nice car on the street and post a picture and then list the compression ratios and taxable horsepower ratings and stuff like that, because it seems no one really cares about that stuff! Or at least they didn't the way I was telling them. I'm not an artist by any means possible so this isn't one of those blogs owned by someone who wants to change the world by sharing their drawings that have a deep meaning.
By the way, I AM trying to be funny with how I write these posts, I'm sure I've failed at that already, but hey, we all gotta start somewhere. Anyway, I've had the idea for a blog like this for a long time, and like I said before, I've made many attempts at a blog but they crashed and burned faster than a Ford Pinto(thats a joke, just so ya know). I mean it took me like 30 minutes just to come up with a title for THIS blog, I'm sure I'll have a great idea for a catchier one tomorrow, so if the name of this blog changes a few times, now ya know why!
I love almost any kind of car, my area of specialty is American cars. But unlike those shotgun wielding country folk who go around screaming "BUY AMURICAN", I also support cars from other countries, I love European Supercars and enviromentally responsible Japanese cars(to an extent). I'm not really sure WHY I love American cars the most, maybe I'll think about that someday...
Cars that I absolutely can't stand are TUNERS. Stupid little hopped up crotch rockets created by angry 18 year old boys that are just horrible in everyway, which explains why I HATE the Fast and Furious movies, I'm even more mad at them for tuning up great American Muscle Cars! They destroyed a perfectly good 1972 Ford Torino in their latest film, AND IT WAS A FREAKING COBRA JET CAR!!! But yeah anyway, I hate chopping, channeling, and customization to an old car. There are some things that may be okay, like on certain cars, changing the wheels might be acceptable, like a '57 Chevy for instance looks pretty good with Crager rims!
One thing I strongly dislike to see but LOVE to look for are rusting classics. Classic machines becoming one with the earth in someones backyard or are in line for the shredder before being shipped off to China in a big steel cube. It's so sad to see a classic machine abused and forgotten, but finding them gives you a certain thrill. I can't wait for the day when I come across one and I'm able to save it from death.
Well anyway, I'll explain more about these things in later posts most likely, so keep an eye out if you wanna see more from Johnathon Berkman.
